What's wrong with my gas mower? Can I fix it myself?
Question:The other day, I was cutting the lawn, when I heard a loud thump. Suddenly, the mower blade stopped running full speed. I tried pushing up the throttle, but it no longer went: "vroom". It now just sits there putt-putting along at a really slow speed. I don't know much about mowers--can someone help?
Answers:
Sounds like you hit something hard, and squeezed your flywheel key.
Does the engine chug and vibrate or run smooth?
If you don't know what you are doing, I would recommend having it serviced by a professional. If you do plan to try to fix it, first make sure to remove the cap from the spark plug! If the spark plug cap is not removed, there is a chance that the blade can start spinning while you are working on it.
Try opening up the throttle by taking off the filter.
Could be a few things. None of which you can fix yourself. Take it to a qualified small engine shop.
