How to replace the belt on a Whirlpool dryer?
Question:my dryer bet broke I need to replace it.
Answers:
On a Whirlpool dryer, first, with a putty knife, on each side (one side at a time) Slip it between the top and front about 3" from the end. You know where when you feel resistance... Pop the end of putty knife while lifting the corner of the top. Lift the top and let it LEAN against the wall... Do NOT let it fall backwards. Remove the screw on each side about 1 foot down (these may be gone if someone worked on it before) with a 5/16 nutdriver. Tug the front panel from the top... it will come forward and since the belt is broken, the drum wiil probably fall forward with it... Lift the front off and you can replace the belt.
Now to replace it, there is an "idler" pulley on the bottom of the dryer, and it has detached itself. Put the belt around the drum, get down on the floor with a flashlight, and put the pulley back in place. There is a slot that it fits in and the 2 "ears" on it go into other slots. the belt passes THRU the pulley, causing it to tighten and goes over the pulley on the motor.
Make sure the drum is ON the rear rollers,( you might want to check these while the drum is loose and see if they are bad. They should spin freely without any wobble...) and replace the front, making sure that the front of the drum is placed properly..
Replace the screws and just push the top down until you hear the click.

It shouldn't be too difficult. You'll need to take the front panel off the dryer. There should be two screws on the bottom of the front panel.
Then you'll see a frame of some type that supports the front of the drum. This will need to be removed. Once it's off, you should be able to just slide the new belt around the drum an the pulley on the motor.
Reassemble in reverse order.
