Dehumidifier And Sump Pump Help?
Question:is it pointless to run a dehumidifier in my basement when there is a sump pump down there as well ? i cant tell if it's drying up the moisture in the basement or if it's from the sump area, seems like im always dumping the bucket of water, i do have a leak in the basement when it rains, thats why i got it, Thanks

The Dehumidifier takes Moisture out of the Air and keeps the Damp Musty smell out of the Basement. I have to empty mine Everyday due to the Humidity in the Air. Yes use both...
The small surface area of the sump should contribute little to the overall high humidity in the basement. If you want to cut it down make a cover for the sump that cuts down the air circulation. You are getting a much larger contribution from the dampness soaked into the walls.
You might look at the dehumidifier and see whether it has a short nozzle above the bucket to which you could attach a hose (with hose clamps perhaps) and run the hose to the sump so you didn't have to empty the bucket.
the dehumidifier is to remove moisture,it has nothing to do with your sump pump.the level for humidity should be between 50 to 60%below 50 will be to dry above 60 will attracts bugs.you should run a hose from the dehumidifier to the sump pump pit, that is why they have a hose attachment to the back, first you would have to drill out the hole and than attach hose.
Contacting a local structional engineer would be my best suggestion. You may even get a free suggestion over the phone. Good Luck !
