What material do i use to build my patio?
Question:i have a 8x 10 peice of my yard that i would like to put a patio on. the only problem is that it retains water no matter which way i slope it. if its level or sloped either way it holds water. what should i do about the water and what material should i use to build my pation i was thinking either concrete or paver. your suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Answers:
I would use paver bricks instead of concrete just incase you get a little bit of settling from all the water. You can also put a drain or two in the patio itself and some drain tile running underneath to try to dry the area.
if you go with paver you have a selection to choose from sizes and shapes
if you go with concrete it can be stained with whatever color and design you choose.
i would figure out the prices of each and check your budget,
is it going to be a slab out there or are you going to put posts and a roof like a gazebo?
You need to figure out where the water is coming from first. Try to divert that water. By just placing concrete or laying pavers, a lot of labor and cost, your setting yourself up for future mosquito breeding areas. If your sloping into a wall you could try to drill in weep holes to allow water to pass through the wall. Call some contractors to get free estimates and listen to what they plan to do, you can learn a lot.
