Used well water to fill pool, now its green! what do i do?
Question:pool was totally drained and cleaned,
only filled about 1/4 with well water,
the rest was delivered chlorinated water
Answers:
Before doing anything to the pool take a sample of water down to your local pool store and have them analyze it. Make sure they test for the following:
Total chlorine
Free chlorine
Combined chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Hardness
Cyanuric acid
Total dissolved solids
Metals
Phosphates
Without purchasing anything at the pool store recommendations, bring the results back and post them here or feel free to email them to me at robandliz1992@yahoo.com With the above analysis we can pinpoint the problem and rectify it.
As mentioned, if it's copper then adding shock or other chemicals can actually worsen the problem. If it's algae then we need to know exactly how much chlorine to put in. If it's something else then the analysis will let us know so we can treat that.
There isn't a pool problem out there (chemistry wise) that can't be solved with a little judicious use of the proper chemicals and liberal applications of patience ;-)
Please include the gallon size of the pool, the material it's made of (concrete/plaster or vinyl lined), filtration system, chlorination system, and any chemicals you've used in in the last couple weeks.
replace your filter & put in pool chlorine. You should replace your filter also after the pool clears up.
Needs chlorine if it is 8000 to 10000 gallons of water about 2 gallons of unscented bleach will kill most the algae, then filter it. It may need more or less depending on size, Hot weather promotes algae blooms
Just add a scoop of chlorine everday for a few days then add acid to get the PH right. It will easily become sparkling. I have filled our pool with runoff (we don't have too much rain here). It was chocolate brown for only a week before it became clear again!
Clean it?
are you checking all the chemical levels in your pool? make sure you have plenty of what you need.. also make sure your filter is clear and circulating the water properly.. if the water is still, its going to get buildup.
chorline wont turn color clear just gets id of germs. go to store and get a product call pool shock it will clear water over night. can also use a water claifier made for pools
Your well water probably has some dissolved copper in it. You get chlorine in there and the copper oxidises turning green.
Where I live we have lots of iron in the wells and peoples pools turn orange after they add chlorine the first time.
Go to your pool supply store and look for a product this http://www.poolquestinc.com/product.php?... It will make the copper coagulate and the filter can pull it out.
You will want to keep an eye on your filter after adding this stuff it will get mighty dirty quickly.
If you add more chlorine or shock it will only get worse. The chlorine in the delivered water probably oxidisied the copper.
Its very simple when you know.

has one page on water care that pretty much tells the whole
story. Good luck
You need to shock it with chlorine well water really isn't much different from city water if it is safe to drink.
