Do fans use resistors to slow themselves down ?

Question:eg. Speed 1 uses 10 ohm resister

speed 2 uses 5ohm resister

speed 3 uses 2 ohm resister

and does it apply to other household appliances like air-con or air purifier or humidifier ?

yes and no some fans do but most use the winding of the motor if its a 3 speed motor going tho the switch it has 3 leds going into the motor one each for each of the 3 speeds or however many the motor has in the motor you have 3 sets of windings
