What do you do when you get water all over an electrical outlet?
Question:I've gotten a load of water over an electrical outlet, and it was making a crackling sound so I turned the switch off using the end of a plastic vacuum pipe. But what do I do next, I can'tr turn the thing on again, it will make that crackling sound again, and how do I get rid of the water without electrocuting myself?
Answers:
Turn this electrical outlet off at the mains, remove the cover and tape the end of the wires and let it dry naturally. then switch the electric back on.
Leave it off till you know it's dry.
Let it dry out!
Don't plug anything in!
No, don't blame me if you get electricuted, BUT IF IT WERE ME I would leave it for a couple of days (switched off), maybe give it a blast with a hairdryer, and then try switching it back on again. Very often these things are fine once they dry out.
Just let it dry out on its own. Day or two should do it depending on how hot it is in your area.
Also if that area has water around it (sink, tub, water heater, etc.), have a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI) outlet installed.
first unless you are standing in a puddle of water you aint going to die,, take your vacuum cleaner and suck on the socket a bit, then let it continue drying for a hour or so, should be fine,,
go to the fuse board switch off the trip switch for the socket plug something in to the nearest socket to it if that doesn"t work the power is defo off.open up the water damaged socket dry it with a towel and it should be ok
A. It has to dry out. B. be careful, be very careful. C. If it's your computer or guitar amp it's probably toast. D. Call the landlord or an electrition. E. you are not a light bulb, don't light yourself up.
take a good size metal fork...and shove that right in there
Let it dry on it's own or you're gonna wind up with a new hairstyle.
Hi well go over the whole thing with the hair dryer and then leave it for a day or too to get dry and then it should be ok to use. But dont even think of plugging anything in until your sure its dry as a bone,
use that same plastic vacuum pipe to suction all the water
from the problem area, make sure that all of the power is off,
clean all of the contacts with a towel, wiping off any residue
or rust. If you have access to an air compressor, use it to blow all of the residual stuff out of the way. Buy a can of cheap
hair spray and spray the entire circuit with it, try to make your circuit oblivious to the circumstances prevelant.
turn your mains power off then unscrew the outlet and either allow to dry naturally overnight or use a hairdryer to speed things up you can turn the power on to dry it as long as you dont touch the outlet you will be ok
get an electrician in
I'm surprized it did'nt blow the breaker/fuse I would suggest that you try to isolate that particulat circuit, I would be thinking about your freezer/fridge being NOT on.
Take the cover off and get the hair dryer out. Plug it into a different outlet and leave the power off to the wet outlet. Just be careful not to get the wires hot enough to melt the insulation.
Switch off the circuit breaker for that circuit if its the ring circuit
plug your hairdryer into an alternative circuit ie cooker socket out let via an extention cable undo the socket and take a good look at it dry out with warm airdryer making sure it is completly dry and safe refit the socket switch on the circuit via breaker i think this would solve your problem.
or switch off circuit and fit a new socket outlet which you know is safe and dry.
Run for the hills brother!
RUN till it drys out
get a shop vacuum and vacuum it let dry.
