Central AC not blowing out cold air anymore?
Question:Hi y'all! :)
My central AC doesn't seem to be blowing out cold air anymore. Thankfully there is a separate unit for upstairs and downstairs, and the downstairs is still chugging along just great, so we've relocated half the furniture downstairs till we figure out what's wrong with the AC.
Well, the upstairs is still blowing out air... it's just not cold. I've heard this could be from a number of things, but I have zero knowledge in air conditioners. I want to call someone to come out and fix it, but I am so afraid of getting schemed and conned out of my money because I'm not knowledgeable in the subject.
We also found the model number and serial number to the unit, but we can't find a brand name anywhere, so I don't know how I'd go about looking up a manual or something like that to read up on it.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! This summer is HOT, it's supposed to feel like 109 tomorrow! Yikes!

It could be any number of things. The most obvious would be that the system "sprung a leak" somewhere and all of your refrigerant leaked out. Although it could be many other things causing your problem as well. Without being there to check it out-who knows.
Call out a reliable HVAC repair tech in your area.It is good to be cautious about scam artists, there are plenty around but then again there are many good HVAC companies who will take care of you and do you right.
CALL THE MAN AND HAVE A FREON CHECK RAN ON THE UNIT I HAD ONE RAN ON MINE AND IT WAS LOW HE ADDED SOME TO IT WORK,S JUST FINE,
If the air is not cold there can be a problem in your compressor or the thermostat.
If the compressor is not working then your air will not be cooled. It will come as outside air. If the gas in the compressor if not sufficient also it will not cool.
If the thermostat which senses the temperature and controls the compressor is not working then also it will not be sending cooled air.
So most probably these are the problem in addition to the one in which your compressor may not be getting electrical supply or lower voltage. But here the chances are remote.
I agree with Vista. Get a reliable tech to come out and work on it. Even if you read up on it, you still won't know if you're getting scammed or not. You might check with the BBB and see if they have registered complaints about any HVAC contracting companies and avoid the ones with really bad complaints.
OK, HUSSLER
crash course on A/C systems.
5 parts to an A/C system....
Compressor (location is in the Unit outside your house with the fans on top,,,,,,callled CONDENSORE)
Evaporator, wich is a radiator in you central air BOX THINGGY in your basement
A pressure valve...
K...
Im an electrician, and were i would begin to trouble shoot is the outside CONDESOR..make sure the fan's on top of your CONDESOR are working,,,,,,the heat "ENERGY" from inside your house gets moved to the condesor outside your house and the fans disapate the heat...IF the fans arent spinning when the AC is on, then you build HIGH head pressure and you compressor kicks out on HIGH HEAD pressure....REAL important for those fans to run and make sure the fins on the radiator arent being blocked
then check the OBVIOUSe the THERMOSTAT.
if you here the fans come on, and not the comperssor,,,wich i s in the middle of the condessor,,,(BIG BLACK BOX LOOKING THING) you should hear that kick on
9 time out of 10 its electrical,,and thats were I would look,, cause motors that sit oustide in the elements tend to get old with wear and tear and the elements.
check it out, and dont be afaid to ask.
dont get hussled out there all you HUSSLERS..LOL
You are out of freon, is the outside unit working?
It's so hard to tell with the information that you have given. Yes there are a number iof things that could be wron with it. DO this! Make sure all filters are clean first! Check the unit outside and make sure it is clean. Check all fuses and switched to make sure you are getting power. What I am saying is to keep it simple. It might not be as complicated as you fear. My daughter turns off the switch located on the furnace every day. She is a baby and that is just something she likes to mess with when she is doing laundry with momma.
