My tranmission pully keeps coming off my troy bilt lawn mower. whats causing it?
Question:i have all new belts
Answers:
If the pulley is attached with a bolt or nut, replace it right away. That includes any flat or lock washers. If you don't see any kind of washers, then they were lost the first time you lost pulley.
And spend a few extra bucks on a small tube of RED Loctite, red is the "permanent" version.
Check for worn spots and "wallowing" that will cause a chronic problem where the pulley is supposed to stay.
THE SHAFT IS BENT.
It might be a bolt that screws into the shaft of the moter is missing an it keeps letting the pulley come off from the motor shaft. I hope this will help you get the problem figured out?

Look to see if the cotter pin is in it. Look at the end of the shaft. See if there is a square slot on the shaft and the pulley too.
If there is, you need to find a square pin to fit the slots. This keeps the pulley from slipping on the shaft. There should be a set screw holding this pin place.
