What are the National Electrical Code requirements for placement of wall switches?
Question:I thought that the requirement for new residential construction was that a person has to be able to turn on a light without walking into a room, but I'm finding it difficult to find supporting info.
Answers:
the switch is required to be as near the entrance as possible inside the room you are entering 4 ft from from the floor
If you were qualified to do this, would'nt you know the answer?
It is not very clear and can vary by different electrical inspectors but typcally within reach when entering a room and around 3 feet of entering a hallway or common area and most of all common sense when placing a switch some place
A new one on me, I have never seen a room without a light switch, where there is a water problem you must fit pull switches but outside the room.. no, not in England.
i've got a room without a light switch, the the bathroom, its in the hall way next to the bathroom door.
there are no regulations concerning whether a switch is before a room or in it unless it is in an equipotential zone, that is it must be positioned outside of that zone if it is likely to be effected by extraneous effects i.e. water in a bathroom
I take it that "National Electrical Code requirements" are relevant to the USA? .
You have placed it on a UK forum.
