I have a maytag washer that will no longer fill with water or agitate?

Question:wondering if its a easy fix

Answers:
it will not agitate until it fills with water.if it will not put hot or cold water in the machine it could be the mixing valve or the water level switch.it is unusual that both solenoids of the mixing vavle will go out at the same time. the worst thing it could be is the timer... can you turn the knob to spin and will it spin when you do...it should spin even if there is no water in the machine...if it will not spin or put any water in then there is two possible reasons 1 no power to machine 2 bad timer...if it will spin but still will not fill with hot or cold water then 3 possible problems 1 bad mixing valve these are about 30 bucks and u can install this easily yourself 2 bad water level switch..about 30 to 40 bucks you can easily replace this also..3 bad timer about 60 to 150 dollars, even if it works on spin cycles it still could be bad and not sending signal to fill with water.

Looks like they'll have to call Phil Silvers back out of retirement.

The agitation part may just be a belt. The filling issue may be more complicated, possibly the mixing valve. Does it do anything at all? If not, it may just be dead.
buy new one!
Maybe.it could be an internal electrical malfunction or it could be a mechanical malfunction. I'm thinking that it won't be a "do-it-yourself" job. Call in a maytag expert.
If it won't fill or agitate, you have a power supply problem or the timer is bad. Try resetting your circuit breaker and GFI outlet. A timer can cost anywhere between $60 to $200 (US) depending on the model. Call an appliance parts supplier with the model and serial number of your washer. If you still have problems, they are separate from each other. The water supply is restricted in some way by a valve that is not open or a solenoid valve that won't open when it is supposed to. The agitator problem could be the safety switch on the lid or door or you could have a broken belt, clutch or main motor is bad. I really hope your GFI turns out to be tripped.
Check this site. They give some good tips and sell the parts to fix it. This will take you step by step through diagnosing the problem.

I really like "httnmrtt"'s answer. But you should've given but infor on exactly what it's doing. Do you hear a click when you turn on the washer to fill? If not check your power soource to the sylenoid. 120? Well, if not it's either power source or timer. Is so, then it just you missing valve. Replace it - the maching will no agitate without the level switch reaches the disired level.
