Is there something wrong with my swamp cooler?
Question:We've changed the filters and the first day we put it on it felt like we had an air conditioner. The air was cool almost cold. Now that we turn it on it doesn't feel cold anymore. I keep one window open to help the air flow. Are we doing something wrong?
Answers:
A swamp cooler doesn't cool the air in the house it replaces the air in the house with cool air drawn through the grids. Make sure you have good water flow to all areas of the pads. Make sure the new pads fill in all the areas of the grids. If there is an open spot with no pad it will be the easiest way for the air to flow in so it is not being cooled by the evaperation method. open many windows a little bit. A tissue should stay up on the screen if you have enough opening. If you have a strong hot south wind, then open the windows on the north side. The hot air must have an escape. Swampers are great in dry climates but do not work well in humid areas. If you have hot spots that need more air flow try an exhaust fan in a window in that area.
Good luck and remember in just 3 short months we are going to be needing firewood!
Couldn't of said it better myself. Everything that was said is exactly what I would of said. Basically just make sure theres enough water in the a/c, the pads are properly placed, windows open and its not humid. Those types of a/c's dont work when its humid.
I agree - sounds great - You could also try to shade the unit. If it is in direct sunlight you may be heating the water, lrddong the cooling effect.
