Changing my in ground pool light. Don't want to die. Help?
Question:I am replacing a 12V 300watt underground pool light. It is an old school bulb that is of course in its waterproof casing. The way the bulb works is there is two little prongs on the back of it. You twist wire around the prongs and tighten them with a screw. Then you put the bulb in its waterproof case and remount it. If I do this incorrectly, will I be killed?
Answers:
Nothing dangerous will happen it is low voltage no way of getting hurt . Trust me. Worst thing that may happen is you fell a very small tingle if you touch both wires ( wont hurt)
Not sure if I want to be responsible for your death. Check with your pool guy.
i dont know if u will die, but ask your pool man to do it for u. he proabably will after he's done checking the pH in your cement pond : )
call someone to do it for u and have another friend
The key to your answer is "12V". That will not kill you. I have one in my pool that is "120V". I changed it and had no problems whatsoever. Just make sure you have the housing sealed real good before you put it back in the pool.
Before you jump in the pool maybe you should throw a pool party with all of friends to make sure it's safe. Be sure to be the last one in the pool. Also, make them sign waivers, just in case.
Your pool light is hooked up to a GFI breaker. If it was hooked up wrong the gfi would trip instantly. I dont see how you could mess this up just replace it the same way you took it out.
If the light is off then there is no power going to it. Just make sure the switch is in the off position. Even if the light used 1.21 gigawatts, nothing would happen to you if it was off.
Shut off the breaker if you're not sure.
