A window airconditonaner what is the wright way to clean?
Question:how do you clean a window airconditioner
Answers:
Bob has it covered. Its alot of work as they arent that light so grab a friend and its not so hard on the back. Youll need to slide it out the housing .this will require removing the cover (this holds a foam filter that can be washed in the shower easily) and then a few screws until it slides out. Be careful not to damage the flutes mentioned below.
Then take it outside and lay it the grass as it needs a good wash.
Now before you go crazy with the hose ..be very carefull to not get the electrical wet (anything that looks like wires).
Youll need to clean the cooling flutes at the back of the unit..it looks like a lot of metal vertical ribs .you may not need to wash it if they arent that dirty...just vacuum.
The base should be free of dust as well ...and if your vacuum is to big to fit in the tight areas try duct taping a piece of aquarium hose to the hose end and youll have yourself a mini vacuum.
If you do use water .as Bod stated..be sure to let it all dry off before plugging in that AC unit. Just incase you wet some of the electrical.
Good Luck .Darren :)
vacuum the filter? wipe down the surface?
what the hell is a(n) airconditonaner?
blow it out from front to back
Remove the A/C from the wall, take it outside and spray it with the garden hose. Make sure you spray the water from the inside out. That sends the dirt back the way it came. Clean the tray and make sure the drip holes are clear. Leave it in the sun for a while to dry so that it doesn't make a mess when you bring it back inside.
Take unit outside. Remove case. (Be careful not to damage the fins on the coils and be very careful not to damage any lines.) Keep in mind that the coil fins may be sharp, and can remove skin much like a cheese grater. Avoid contact directly or by water to the capacitor, it can deliver quit a shock even when the unit is unplugged. The evaporator (cooling) coil should be cleaned from inside out. The condenser (outside) coil should be cleaned from the outside in. The air filter should be cleaned thoroughly or replaced. Allow everything to dry completely before reassembly.
For best results, the coils should be removed from the unit for maximum cleaning access. A non-caustic coil cleaner is the best solution to use. These are steps to be taken only by an accomplished do-it-yourselfer, or a certified tech.
