Humming in my plumbing...?

Question:Last night, there was a very loud humming coming from the alcove behind my clothes washer where the drain and 2 water faucets are. The alcove area was also vibrating like crazy. It stopped when I flushed the toilet or turned on the washer for a brief moment. Then it came back on. About an hour later, it stopped altogether. Is this something to be concerned about?

Answers:
Your water pressure is too high. Two possible sources are a faulty or non-existent pressure reducing valve (should be located near where water main enters the house) or a missing pressure tank near your water heater.

Turn water heater way down and if the problem goes away, you need to have a pressure tank installed near water heater (best) and/or a new pressure relief valve installed on the water heater (not a true fix but will work).

If that doesn't work, you will need a new pressure regulator installed - should be done by a plumber.

Good luck!
