Why do my walls bleed/weep?
Question:I've been living in my house for well over 5 years now. The entire time that I have lived here my walls have bled, and what I mean by this is that there are streaky oil stains on the wall that looks like someone spashed water on the walls and it dripped down. No matter how many times I have cleaned the walls, the bleeding comes back. I'm not exactly quite sure what causes this...perhaps something with the paint?
Answers:
The cause is the condensation that provokes humidity on the walls. Open your windows more often or use a special appliance, the dehumidifier.
I*ve lived in my house for 30 years and have had the same problem mine looks like brown streaks running down the wall in my kitchen and my pantry. I used to think something had died in the attic and it was fluids running down the walls but couldn*t find anything; I thought it was aleaking can in the pantry, but that wasn*t the case either. It is downright spooky but still goes on. Hope you can find the cause of yours. , I can*t.My stains are brown like dark coffee.
Maybe it's the paint. Also depending on the temperature in your house the paint you currently have on your wall may not work with it. So I would try to paint it a different color. Also I would go somewhere where they specialize in paint so that you can ask them to as well.
You need to cover the stained areas with 2 coats of oil based primer or a stain blocker like Kilz or pro- block. Then repaint the whole wall.Your stains will continue to bleed through any water based paint(because the stains are water based) until they are properly sealed.
Master Painter
it is the humidity in the house
our bathroom does this...something to do with the temp in the room and the temp of the attic(if you have ceiling drips) or the temp on the other side of the wall...condensation!
I thought there was a leak in the attic
or ghosts or the older paint was coming through the new paint
I will tell you what it is..The previous people that lived there before you were probably heavy smokers, or over the years it is nicotine.I am A paint contractor of 12 years, 37 year experienced painter..It wasn't maybe 6 months ago I had to redo one from this...kilz in it's own will not cover this nicotine..we take a tsp substitude ...all diy's sell it...and dilute it as recomended with water..and sponge mop it on the walls(cover flooring)...rinse with fresh water, re apply the tsp a second time,,rinse again..let dry a day..prime with kilz or zinser solvent based primers(do not use kilz II) it is water based, and does not work well.after this repaint and your there..I have done I would sayat least 50 of these in my time...
Contact the church. Does it bleed more around Easter? This is known as a Stigmata.
