Where is the main power switch located ?

Question:When I opened the main circuit box, I could see several 20 amp circuit breaker switches(light beige color). But I could not find a main switch(Usually red in color ?) to turn off the electricity for the whole house. Could the main switch be somewhere else? This house is just 2 years old. Thanks

Answers:
If not in the circuit panel, go outside where the meter is, Probably in a panel out there.

Hope this helps,

Dave

unless you have two panels in the house it will be one of the top ones usally set off by itself to the top left or right of all the other breakers. They are the same size as the others but you will see a 100 or 200 on it.look close
There is the major possibility that there is no mains switch and that the only way to kill the whole house is to either cut off all the breakers or to jerk the meter. That is the way my house is wired.
usually the main is at the top of the box or could be at the top right or left of the box.they are usually the same color as all the other breakers as i have never seen a red main breaker..considering your home is just 2 years old if you are in the USA it has to be in the main circuit breaker box as your home could not have apssed an inspection without it...
