What is the optimal % humdity in a basement to avoid dampness?

Question:My dehumidifier has a setting and the lowest is 35% but our room must be damp because it takes a long time to get that low. We burned out our 1st dehumidifier so I am trying to avoid that fate. Is there a % level that is above 35 but still will avoid dampness/smell/mold in the basement?

Answers:
We have ours set at 45% and it keeps our damp basement dry just fine. Ü
