I THINK THEY GO INTO THE DIRT TO KEEP COOL . BUT ACTUALLY I'VE SEEN THEM IN LIKE REALLY GREEN GRASS AROUND TREES.


They are still around but turn their lights off to conserve energy. Then they turn them back on to see in the dark. Energy efficient!!
I believe they nest in moss
