Does it harm plants when they're placed on top of a refrigerator?

Question:I'm running out of surface space for my houseplants.

Answers:
If the refrigerator is in a shady place and the plant likes sun, than it will die.
If it is a shade plant as long as you don't forget to water it, it should be fine.

Some of the older ref. were not insulated as well, and emitted heat. The newer ones should be fine, although heat rises and you will need to water them a little more.
The condenser at the back of the fridge generates warmth, so as long as you put warmth loving plants there, and there is enough light, there is no problem for the plant.
However you will need to make sure that there is no water dripping from the plant onto the electrical components of the fridge, to avoid the risk of electrocution, fire or blow-out of the fridge.
They will probably love you for providing a semi-tropical Atmosphere, the moisture from the condenser, the opening and closing of the doors, and the heat from the motor... they'll be purring like a little garden kitten... Good luck! LOL ;}
I had an orchid once and kept it on top of my refrigerator because I had no furniture and it died.
I have sown tomato seed in a covered tray, on a white surfaced refrigerator, below a window and produced healthy seedlings.

The gentle warmth from the generator is excellent for promoting growth.

For a mature plant, the criteria mentioned, of ample light for the plant that needs it, and sufficient moisture, is essential.

As for any plant in or out of doors, care for it daily according to the needs of the plant, as you have a number of plants I imagine you are comfortable with this.

To this end, a good gardening book is a must have 'bible' for any plant lover. Since you have access to the computer, there are many sites devoted to the subject and many that specialise in certain types of plants.

Good luck
