Where are you supposed to safely dispose of batteries at?

Question:I have a bunch of old used-up AA, AAA, D, and other size batteries that I want to get rid of properly. I know it's not environmentally safe to just throw them away with the regular garbage. I was wondering how are you supposed to safely get rid of them or recycle them?

Answers:
You should find out where you can recycle batteries in your area. However, if there is a Whole Foods or Best Buy store in your area, they have recycle kiosks or bins. Good Luck and keep recycling!

Most Walgreens, RiteAid and other such stores will take them.

Here's a site to find a recycling center in your area:

Batteries plus and Radio Shack both provide this service.
If you live in the UK, most tips(waste dumps) have a special bin for Batteries.
I know for certain that in Norfolk and the surrounding areas they have special recycling zones to get rid of batteries.
I hope this has helped you.
