I have Earwigs and they're out of control. Help!!?
Question:We live in a private, gated community of rental homes which used to be old military housing for high level officers in the 60s. We recently transferred from one house to a larger one near the golfcourse and a stream. When we moved in we noticed TONS of earwigs and "brownbugs." The leasing office has had the exterminator come out each week for two weeks and spray. He got a lot of them and it IS better (there's thousands dead in front of our windows and doors) but they keep showing up in every room in the house, mostly earwigs. We have indoor-outdoor cats, but we want to know how we can get rid of these things for good. Can anyone tell me how to control them? Thanks.
Answers:
The next time that the exterminator comes out make sure that he sprays all around your foundation really well. He should spray from the ground up to the windows. He should also spray a band around your house (from the foundation out three or four feet. On the inside of your house, you (or the exterminator) should spray along all the base boards and in all the corners or separations.
In the yard, you can roll up newspaper, wrap a rubber band around the roll and then soak it in water. Put many water soaked logs out in your yard. In the morning, drop the logs in a plastic bag, tie off the bag and put it in your trash.
Good Luck!!
Chickens, a great way to stop the incoming critters. Chickens love earwigs and generally anything that crawls plus you get free eggs.
I don't have an answer for you but my work is infested right now too. I know they nest about 17 feet underground so they are tough to get rid of. They get into everything though. I open doors and they fall out of the cracks, I go for a muffin and a pincher bug is in there before me. I cant answer you but I sure understand what you are going through if thats worh anything to you. I think I am going to suggest to our executive director the chicken idea.
call an exterminator
