Your garbage collection only comes every fourteen days? That's kinda sick don't you think? I suggest that you move...anywhere else!

well dont throw away dead bodys with faceage with sugar embalmed colding fluid
Hi BigButt

I never get troubled by flies

I get stacks of plastic bags given to me by the supermarket to carry my stuff home

I put waste in them and tie the handles together

It really is that easy
it wouldn't bother me. we re-cycle cans.paper, plastic and now have a composter. people think its a pain in the a-r-s-e to re-cycle but once you get into it its easy. plus its good for the kids to get into tthe habit. i'm fortunate to have the space for 3 different bins and i still get my rubbish taken weekly. though with re-cylcling i've forgotten to take the bin out so sometimes has been 2 weeks.
it's rubbish! ha ha. sorry. no, it is a very bad idea, but we do produce far too much waste; make a compost heap, use old fashioned nappies. get a decent bin with a lin that you can close firmly against the nasties and keep everything as clean as possible. and campaign against it to your local council!

(also plural of fly is flies, sorry)

also, don't you just love the contribution by the oh-so-obviously amercan sausage_eater. ha ha
We've had fortnightly collections for a couple of years where I live - I don't know what all the fuss is about!
i think its disgusting. we pay council tax every year, and its over £1000. now I'm being told that i now face further charges of £120 extra a year. the idea of a "slop bucket" is revolting, and its only a matter of time before some nasty disease ends up being spread due to this very primeval idea. who the hell thinks of these stupid money making ideas. i haven't a clue how I'm going to prevent the rubbish smelling in the hot weather, and as for the flies,I'm at a loss for that too. this idea they have come up with is going to do more harm than good. god help the government when people start getting sick through the germs from having to keep rubbish longer. its going to start encouraging rats to come out to feed if there is an increase in what they class as food. i think this new idea is utterly ridiculous and that it is going to create more problems rather than solving any. xx
go via the local tip once a week--easy peesey
We have normal bin collected one week and recycle the other. I think the council needs to supply bigger bins, there are two adults and two children in my house and we are always having to squash more stuff into the bin. If you have any overflow then you cannt leave extra bags next to the bin cos they wount take them away. When I was little the bins used to be collected from the back garden and put back, now we are lucky if its put back outside the right house, we've had to put numbers on them.Nappies are a problem and ok terry ones would be better for disposal/ reuse but both me nad my husband work and have more than enough to do without using them. Hopefully wont need them for much longer but even if they are in nappy sacks if the,ve sat there for 2 weeks its not great
Think there will be a rush on waste disposal units for sinks...
In Germany, we have to separate our garbage - one week they collect the compost, the next week they collect the normal rubbish. You have to pay more the bigger your rubbish bin is, the compost one is free. We have to bring glass and paper away ourselves. Plastics, tins and packages get put into an extra plastic bag, which gets collected every 4 weeks.

You aren´t supposed to use plasic garbage bags for the compost, but many people do, because otherwise it is not only disgusting, but gets full of moulds, and of course attracts flies. Some people do buy something that you stick on the lid of the bin that should keep maggots away, but most Germans just wash it thoroughly every 2 or 4 weeks. Yuck!
It doesn´t get too bad unless you actually put meat scraps into the garbage - that is where the maggots come from. If I have these during hot weather, I put them into an extra plastic bag and close it tight, then I put that bag into which ever garbage will be picked up next. Then there aren´t too many flies.

The world looks at Germany and praises it for being so "recycling friendly". Just try doing all this yourself. Your kitchen and appartment ends up full of garbage, and don´t dare miss the pick-up days.! Most people only go along with it because they have to - the garbage collectors check before they empty the bins & bags to see what is actually in it, if it´s wrong they leave it!! Or you get fined! I would be happy to just have a normal garbage pick-up every fortnight!!
There are no problems with two weekly alternate collections if you follow simple rules.
1/ Reduce the amount of rubbish you buy
2/ use Terry nappies and wash them after disposing of the faecal matter down the loo.
3/ Compost all vegetable matter.
4/ Wash out and recycle all glass/plastic/card/steel/alumi... containers
5/ recycle all paper goods.
6/ Remaining rubbish (if there is any) put into decomposable drawstring bags, tie up and put into bin.

We had to do this several years ago with our council and we never had a problem with smell or flies. Our rubbish bin was never very full and our recycling bins were always the fullest and trips to the recycling centre a couple of times a year had to be done. People who complain are just not understanding the system or are just lazy.
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

ARE YOU FROM PAKISTAN?
Liquidsing food and flushng it away is illegal. Go on, phone severn trent or thames water and ask. It will mess up thier filter beds.

not good advice. Transporting waste through miles of pipework to then clogg up a filter bed is extremely enviromentally unsound.

"Paul F" gives the best advice in his first bullet point that everyone seems to have a problem with in this whole bin/recyle debate.

Don't buy stuff you don't need, boycote products with too much packaging or "free stuff " - you don't need it.

People seem to think if you label something as "recyclable" its ok to buy it and create waste.what rubbish that it.people seem to want re-cycling to create a solution to the problems they create.

( this is not a dig at the questioner, just a comment for all those trendy recyclers who still buy tons of unneccesary rubbish because "its ok, it can be recycled" )
