Incense doesn't smell like much?

Question:I'm fairly new to burning incense.
I purchased some just a short while ago and whenever I burn it...it basically just smells like smoke.

I'm burning it how i've been told.
Just light it, wait till it glows, blow it out and let it go.

So is it just poor quality or something?

Answers:
It sounds like you got some cheap incense. There are many different aromas out there. My favorite is nag champa, it has a relaxing fragrance.

Incense is usually so strong it burns your eyes. Try going to a better store and get sandalwood. That was strong enough to cover up all the drugs used on campus in the 60's. (I didn't of course, but my roommate was a rather well-known dealer)

With all the great scented candles available, incense is rarely used today. Why not try vanilla votives in a bowl of apples? If that is too boring, go to Target and get some of their scented candles.
If laying around for a long time, it can go stale (lose it's fragrance) You don't know how long it's been on the store shelf
