Is flannel an abrasive material?
Question:I am wondering if flannel material will scratch my Ipod (you know how easily ipods can get scratched) or PSP if I make a case/sleeve using it. Is microfiber a better option? What materials are nonabrasive and will not scratch the screen? What should I avoid? Thanks!
Answers:
Flannel is not an abrasive material. It creates lint. It can also create static electricity. It wears out and tears easily. Pens, pencils, paperclips, etc. can scratch your ipod through the material. Microfiber does not create lint, but your ipod can still be scratched through the material.
It would be better to buy a commercially made case because they will protect your ipod better than flannel or a microfiber.
If you are intent on making your own case, use leather or a soft chamois. Good luck.
Flannel is a very fine abrasive to plastic. It will not leave visible scratches, but over a period of time it will dull the finish and leave the screen looking cloudy. Not sure about microfiber.
Use microfiber, flannel has cotton threads that can break and they will scratch your ipod. Microfiber is the key to anything electronic it even cleans plasma tv screens witout scratching.
No, but it does give off lint. Try a chamois.
Babies' diapers are made of flannel in Australia. It is used for men's plaid shirts, wrapping silverware and pajamas.
It is not a question of softness, then, but of suitability. Flannel tends to shed, not what your Ipod needs. Microfiber collects link so that won't work. Why not just buy a case at Target or Stein Mart? You can get the durability, cushioning, ease of cleaning, and cost of a ready made product without attempting to sew a snug yet practical case that may shrink.
