WHY do I suddenly have so many Water Bugs?
Question:I have lived in my apartmnent for 27 years, and I always had a few cockroaches, but in the past two years, I started getting water bugs occasionally. This summer they are getting crazy! I kill one or more a day. What reasons could there be for their increase? Will boric acid kill them the way it kills cockroaches?
I have cats, so I am very careful with the boric acid but am too worried to use professional exterminators...
Do I have any options?

Sometimes the weather has an effect on why we get so many water bugs or roaches,sometimes our neighbors do.Boric acid is effective but the bugs track it out where your cats are.
The best thing to do is complain(nicely) to the building manager,he SHOULD schedule periodic exterminations for the whole building. If he has already, then most managers would want to know if additional spraying is necessary.

Yes the boric acid will kill them like the roaches.
you could fumigate the house with foggers bought at the store, but i would board the cats for a couple of days if you do that.
you could ask your landlord to have a fumigator come out---but agin...i would board the cats for a couple of days.
also - how do you keep the boric acid away from the cats? (or vice-versa)?
Water bugs are usually looking for a moist spot.in california right now...we have these and ants...we are so dry that these insects are looking for water (moisture).
but I also know that if you are from a moisture laden area, like Oklahoma (where it is raining continually)...you will also see then because of the moisture.
I guess the treatment is going to depend on how agressive you want to get and if you want to board the cats.
