Garage Sale tips ...?

Advertise in a local paper with good circulation and put a sign up on your lawn during the week announcing the hours of your tag sale that weekend.

Warn your neighbors personally so they are not caught off guard with annoying traffic problems - like people blocking their driveways.

Group items in a logical way - kitchen gadgets, seasonal items, furniture, decorations...

Price things to sell, not for major profit - as you price them, think about whether or not you want to have to lug them back into your house at the end of the day.

Use colored dots for a pricing code rather than marking each item with a price. For example blue = $5, red = $2, yellow = 50 cents...

If you get early birds while you're setting up tell them to make you a reasonable offer. But if they lowball you, just say no.

Be sure to have plenty of change in quarters and small bills.

Go to freecycle.org and sign up for the group in your area. You can advertise that you will have items free for the taking after a certain hour. It's free and quick to sign up and all items on freecycle are, of course, free. This way, you can take items back in that you don't want to give away and leave items out that people can just take. OR, simply put a big sign up at the end of the day saying, FREE STUFF.

ask some personal help from friends and family members...
Put up tons of fliers and make little posters or signs that you can put in the ground with stakes that are in the shape of an arrow. Make four or five leading them to your house.

Remember, people are there for cheap items. They're only going to buy if it is in their price range, so keep it cheap. It might be hard to let go of some of the items, so.. just a warning.

If you have a lot of things, put them into categories, like electronics, paintings, decor, clothing, etc...

If anything is broken, write something like "minor damage" or something because they might come back and "return" it. That happened to my friend once. It was actually kinda funny.

If you want, this is kind of not necessary, put out drinks and food on a small table or offer donuts or something if it's early in the morning. If it's late afternoon... just serve pastries. Donuts still work.. everyone loves them. Then you can be like, "see how sturdy the table is".. wow, I'm a freak.. okay moving on.

About the food, just offer it to people individually when they come because then people might overstuff themselves and leave without buying anything.. I would get pissed if that happened to me.

Okay, that's it.
have fun moving :)
Don't try and sell your things like if they were new.
The main things I think are helpful for me is to have good directions to your house ( make nice big signs so they are easy to read, but not a lot of info just the basics), price your items ( some people don't like to ask for prices) be friendly to customers and have items so they are easy to look at ( not in a box, etc) have plenty of small change ( especially quarters and 1"s. 5's and 10"s) and be ready to go down on items ( some will ask right off the bat). Also it is sometimes good to have it when it's payday or the first weekend of the month. Good luck and hope it goes well.
Articles should be clean, price each item, someone to help, plenty of change and smaller bills, advertise.
