My grandma and I have killed a total of 100+ flies in our house. How the heck did they get indoors? We have...?
Question:...no holes outside through the inside of the house. Were are they comming from and how can we kill them?
Answers:
All it takes is one fly to have dozens of baby flies (maggots). Check all garbage pails and cupboards. Most likely, only one or two flies flew indoors but they have multiplied somewhere. Are all the flies of the same size and species? That's usually an indication. Pouring boiling water on maggots will kill them, by the way.
Obviously I can't be sure where they are coming from, but this happened to my family once and it turned out that there was a dead squirrel in the chimney. You might want to check around for any weird smells that might indicate a dead animal somewhere (gross I know, but that's what it was when that happened to us).
Check through your pantry and cuboards and make sure you don't have anything rotting in there. A few years ago I had the same problem. I searched through the kitchen and found a bag of potatoes that was about 7 months old. They didn't even smell. That was the problem though, the flies diapeared after that.
If its not food, and you just have a fly infestation try filling some glasses with water and placing them up high around your door ways. For example, the door to my garage is next to my fridge so I put one up there. I heard something about this freaks the flies out because it magnifies something. I am not sure how well it works, but we catch alot in the glasses either way ;)
Check any produce you have purchased, ex onions, fruit etc. This happeneed to my family, we had purchased a maggot infested Onion from our local grocery store and without knowing this. the bag had become opened litterally hundreds of flies we in our home! spray a lot of fly/bug killer then leave the house for a few hours, it not good to breathe in the poison. and complain to your local grocery store of the problem
good luck!! i know its a hassle!
There is a fun way of getting rid of them that's easy. I've done this before, and it works wonders. Find some spray adhesive. One can is enough. Spray a short burst OVER the area where the flies are. As it quickly falls through the air, it locks up their wings, and they fall to the floor. Then just sweep them up with a brush and dust pan. You can get a bunch with each short shot. It won't be enough to mess up the floor. It's fun to do, also.
Flies can get into a house just from an open door. Or if the house is new they could have layed eggs in the wood while it was being built. They lay eggs in the walls especially if they are wood. When it gets warm outside(inside) the eggs hatch and you have hundreds of flies that just seem to keep popping up. The best thing to do is use Tat Fly Strips which are very sticky. And you might even want to go around and self stick them to the strip because it may take awhile for them to land on it. Try to get all the flies you can and then throw the strip away. The longer you let the flies live the more eggs they will lay. So kill them asap! Hope this works for you.
