Please Help! Whats the quickest easiest way to get rid of mice?
Question:Theyre driving me insane! I live in NY in a 4 family building and unfortunately I think an exterminator is out of the question because my landlord cant access all of the units for legal reasons. Ive got rat poison everywhere, which theyve been eating...but they just arent dying! I killed 2 with glue traps (and reeses peanut butter cups) but it took weeks just to catch them! I have yet to find the hole that they are coming in from, but if I can access it, Ill stuff it with brillo pads. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

rodents are allergic to peppermint. Go to the natural foods supply store and get Peppermint OIL. (Not extract, the alcohol in the extract makes it evaporate to quickly.) Put it on cotton balls and leave them around the apartment. The oil makes their skin itch and they leave.
Check around all the pipes that come into the house. Under the sinks and if washer and dryer check around them.
Make sure you have rat traps in the right location, such as under your sink and in basement and closet corners.
try regular old fashion wooden traps those glue ones sometimes the mouse can some how let loose and then in a case like this I would recommend a cat. (even though I'm not a cat lover anything is better than mice) good luck.
I tried glue traps,
cage traps,
poison and they just kept coming.
My cure.
I went and got 2 kittys
They are haveing a blast catching those pesty critters
Traps, cats, etc all work to an extent. The best way to keep the mice from returning is to remove their food supply. Check your cabinets and look for signs where the mice have been eating. They'll eat anything really, but some of the things I've noticed that they seem to prefer are packaged gravy mixes and other seasonings that come in an envelope, any type of bagged sugar or sweets, boxed flour and crackers. I suggest putting these items in plastic boxes. Ziploc bags won't work, the mice will chew right through them. Make sure there is no leftover food in your kitchen. Plates left from the night before need to be scraped clean before you go to bed. Food spills need to be wiped up. If they can't find food in your house to eat, they will leave.
I live out away from the city, in an older model mobile home (a rental) and used to have a bad mouse problem. I tried traps, poison, nothing worked. Once I noticed my food being chewed on, I threw it out, and put the rest of my food in plastic storage bins. I also got more motivated to keep food spills wiped up. Even a crumb! I haven't noticed any more mice since then. Good luck to you!
First, light a candle in areas you think might be ports of entry. If the flame flickers all around then there's a draft and you can search for the entryway with the candle flame. The brillo pad is a great temporary fix. The landlord can repair these.
Now the current problem. Get permission for a temporary cat for the problem. If that fails, use the mouse traps as well as d-con rat & mouse killer. Believe me the product is killing the rodents, but you might have more coming in.
Be prepared if you use d-con to have odors from the walls, where they die, they might not be accessable between the walls.
