Slug poisoning?
Question:I have to feed my rabbits every night in the back patio and I'm always afraid of my creepy slug encounters. They are EVERYWHERE. Is there any poison that will somehow keep them away, OFF the patio, OFF the rabbit hutches?
Answers:
i totaly support the slugs. im in favor of them! however, if you dont want to melt them with salt, go to the local garden supply and ask them this very same question and they will hook you up with some slug-be-gone, or whatever...poor things are dumber than a rock and just trying to get along.sorta like those cute bunnies in the cage.how you gonna cook 'em?
Natural solutions to slugs include:
- a mixture of diatomaceous earth, hot pepper, and cedar flakes
- beer or brewer’s yeast in a shallow container sunk into the soil
- the decollate snail
use salt. put a line around the rabbits...my neighbor kid just salted to death a slug the other nite. it works!
table salt.
I had the same problem. This is what I did. I got a box of rubber gloves and a couple of empty jars and I collected them. Put them in the jars and once they started to liquefy and smell bad I through the jar away and got a new one. Start just at sunset and at first you will find bunches of them. Slowly but surely though they will be harder and harder to find. Besides salting them or trying to repel them with diatomatious earth there is nothing that kills them. To get rid of them you have to just eliminate them and once they are gone there won't be any to reproduce. It took me a couple of weeks of turning over rocks and buckets but it has been almost 5 years and I haven't had a problem like I had. It used to be odd not to see them. Now it is odd to see them. Also, encourage toads to live in your garden or yard. They love slugs. If you can get past the icky part of it this truly is the only thing that worked for me.
