Intruding Cats in my flower bed?

Question:How do I keep a cat from intruding into my flower bed and digging up new plants and seedlings without just shooting at it with an air gun? It is a little flower garden in our front yard and we hate when he camps out and uses the bathroom in our flower bed and then digs at it too and we keep hinting to the neighbors that their cat is invading our yard and even leaving nasty gifts of feces and hairballs all over our yard. And ideas short of building a fence would be welcome.

Answers:
Place mothballs in your garden, the cats don't like that.

Have the ASPCA set up a trap. They will come and set the trap and then come again when it's sprung. The cat will be taken to the ASPCA and the owner will be contacted and FINED for not keeping their cat controlled.

There is no such thing as an "outdoor cat". Only irresponsible pet owners that don't feel like having a pet all the time. Staying outdoors reduces the life expectancy of a cat by a significant margin. If it is a stray it is a HAZARD to you and the rest of your neighbors. You should trap it for your and everyone elses good.

It may seem harsh but it's the best thing for the CATS everwhere.
Chili powder or cayanne pepper (the cheap stuff from the Dollar Store) sprinkled in the garden will repel them. I have pine cones in my potted plants. Cats don't like the texture for doing their business.
