How do i defrost my freezer?
Question:I have defrosted it once a couple of weeks ago, with warm water in a bowl and a blunt knife. It was all right for a while, but i opened it yesterday and it has gone crazy with frosting again. Its not my freezer, its my landlord's, and it is fairly old.

Either Miss Terry is right, or something is keeping the door from closing all the way. Check the contents of the freezer and see if that's the case. It's cheaper than replacing the seal.

Well you turn the freezer off at the mains and leave the door open overnight then you can clean it out and turnit back on again.
Take everything out of it. Then get yourself some towels and open it up and let it melt. That's all you can do.
Knives (blunt or not) are never a good idea in freezers, patience is what's required!
If the freezers old, it might need replacing. Ask your landlord.
You don't use water to defrost a freezer. First you have to remove all of your frozen items. Then you unplug it, and leave it open...preferably with lots of towels around the bottom to soak up all the water. Once it's all melted, wipe it out real good, plug it back in and close it.
Ask your landlord to get you a new one - it sound as if it is on its last legs!!

If it's "gone crazy" that means the door seal is faulty. Try smearing some vaseline around it to improve the seal.

you can teast the seal by shutting the door with a piece of paper stuck in it. If the paper is difficult to pull out it is ok. If it comes out easily you don't have a good seal.

Tell him your having problems with the freezer he may consider changing it or at least have it looked at by someone.
A freezer shouldn't need to be defrosted that often.
Well if its the old type.. you should shut it off to defrost it .. then make sure you have something like a big bowl to catch the water.. Then clean it up when its all defrosted.. dry it well.. put baking soda in it to keep it fresh smelling and start it up again.. otherwise you are wasting your time and energy if you leave it on.. and you could harm yourself or the appliance when using a knife..
Most freezers are self defrosting, but anyway. You can defrost it by applying a steamer. The hot steam causes the
ice surrounding the freezer in a very short time.
Otherwise leave the freezer off for some time to stop its cooling apparatus from continuing to cool and freeze your cooler.
The steamer is the quickest way, though , you will have it done in just a few minutes.
You should never use any type of implement to scrape off the ice. Although you may not know it, you might accidently pierce the inner skin and cause damage. Let it defrost naturally by turning the freezer off at the mains. Leave it overnight.
Give the inside a good clean and also clean the rubber seal around the door and where it meets the fridge frame also check the seal and make sure there are no kinks, cracks or rips in it. If there is then it needs replacing or a new fridge.
If that is ok then shut the door and check the seal is tight. Make sure it fits snuggly all around and that its not away from the fridge frame anywhere along the seal. If it is they its the door seal that has gone and needs replacing or a new fridge.

When warm room air hits the cold air in the freezer, condensation occurs; this condensation (moisture) is where the frost comes from. There are two possible reasons why the frost built up so quickly. One is that the seal is either worn out or dirty. Try cleaning the seal, and its mating surface. The other reason would be that after you defrosted the freezer, you didn't completely dry the inside of the cabinet.
Unplug it, get it into the garden and let the sun do the job. Just keep the slugs and worms out at night.
Don't plug it in again will keep the fridge from misbehaving again.
