When you hire a lawn service like Scott's or Chem-Lawn what do they actually do?

Question:

Answers:
They come and put fertilizer on your lawn, along with seeding, insect control and aerating as needed. They come and give you an estimate and come 5 times a year for fertilizer. I would strongly suggest getting estimates from well established independent landscapers also, who can do the same job and will charge you 20-30 percent less.

they come by at certain times in the spring, summer, & fall to apply a variety of chemicals to your lawn (weed killer, winter mix, summer mix, etc.) to keep it looking it's best, plus they'll aerate your lawn in the fall.

nothing of course you couldn't do yourself with a push spreader & the right mix of lawn chemical available at any big box hardware store.
They put chemicals on your lawn, to kill the weeds and fertilize your lawn, to help the grass grow. It's done on a schedule and this is the trick as to why their products work.
Personally, I wouldn't want their chemicals all over or in my lawn.
We use Tru-Green and they spray fertilizer on the grass, check for bad spots, and let us know when to cut back or increase watering. They also can do a pesticide application but I don't get that from them. I don't like the chemicals but it's a condo complex and it is included with regular maintenance.
Honestly, it is cheaper to do it yourself if you are able to.
I had both actually many many years ago.
They come out usually three times a year, Spring, Summer, and Fall.
Aerating is and extra charge (I think) which is done during the fall.
The chemicals that they use, you can buy at your local home improvement and get the same results if you follow directions.
Basically, your paying them to do the work.
We have been doing it for years now on our own, and we have a beautiful lawn.
