Has anyone heard of Niff batteries, Redditch?

Question:I have an old hand held torch with the words 'Niff batteries, Redditch' written on it. Can anyone tell me anything about it.

I think you mean NIFE. They are steel batteries containing nickel and steel ( NI nickel, FE iron ) Extremely reliable and robust. can stand abuse including dead-short, we had them in school before the war 1939 I have heard of them being found in a shed, charged up and as good as new. COME TO THINK OF IT WHY ARE WE NOT USING THEM IN CARS Later 25th June I looked up google and there is a good description of NIFE batteries . Worth looking up
