We're moving house but there isn't space for my piano...?
Question:Would it be safe to store it in the garage covered in giant shrink wrap to protect it from the elements? Any ideas?
Answers:
I think shrink wrap would be good or a good cover for it. I think it would also be best if you consult a piano store. They may be the best at telling you how to store it. I'm sure youre not the 1st person that has had to do this...
I suggest you do without something else and keep your piano.
I want a piano..
I'll mind it at my place for you.
i used to work for a storage firm and pianos had to be kept in a special warm room as damp and cold affect them badly. most storage companies specialise in pianos and its not too expensive.. it will cost less than getting it sorted after getting damp and cold
Hi!
Don't cling-wrap it or you will make it sweat and prone to fungal invasion. It would be safer just under a dust sheet. Sounds like you want to keep it. Is there a relative who would care-take it for a while?
Good wishes.
which is more important - the new house or the piano?? if the house then sell the piano as it will be damaged if left in a garage & will never sound right again.
If the piano is important then move to another house that fits the piano
this happened to a friend of mine?and I said to her what I will say to you,is there any sheltered housing near you or residential homes near by? and that's what she did the residential home for old folk and she went in twice a week to play for them also a lady who used to play asked if she could use it ,this brought so much happiness not only to the lady, the other residents and staff, visitors, the joy and feeling good with the music playing, this was on the condition that she would get her piano back, now the home has two as someone donated one,and her piano is polished every day and well looked after?hope you get on ok.
Don't use shrink wrap. If you must store it in your garage, place a sheet over it to protect it from dust. Sometimes it's better to simply 'find' a spot for it in the house... even if it looks in the way or out of place, it will ensure the piano is safe. And it's not forever... Good luck.
