Is a termite service responsible when they sign off on a home but termites show up later?
Question:I had my home inspected by a pest service for termites before I purchased it six months ago. The pest service signed off saying it was clean of the bugs, but I've found a nest in my son's room. I did not have a bond with the company. Are they responsible for getting the termites out?
Answers:
I don't believe that an inspection service is responsible in the case you describe. If you had a pest control company come out and spray and then you found termites, their guarantee would cover you for subsequent spraying until the pests were gone, for a period of time - usually one year.
It depends on the wording of your contract. Most reputable companies guarantee their work for a limited time period with repeat visits if necessary.
Read your contract to see if this applies. If not, call the company and ask if they will discount the rate.
NO, but depends on your contract. Finding a "nest" 6 mos later does NOT mean that the house was not clear 6 mos ago. You need to get a continual contract (spray every few months) to get the gaurantee of no termites over a period of time...
Ron.
My brother had the very same problem with a nationally known termite company, according to his contract with the company it looked like they were responsible. The termite company would not go back to my brothers house without additional payment. To make a long story short, my brother took the company to court. The judge sided with the termite company. I don't know the details as to why the termite company won, I can only assume the contract was worded in a way that the average person does not know what they are signing until it is to late.
YES if they inspected then they should have treated as well, it is the LAW.
