How can I safely find and destroy a wasp nest in a tree?
Question:I was stung this weekend by a paper wasp. The only problem is I am not 100% sure where the nest is. I am pretty sure it is in a thick, 4 ft. cedar tree, but I cannot actually see the nest and am worried about getting too close to investigate. Any ideas on how find and then destroy this nest? I work in the yard alot and I have a dog that spends time there as well, so it is important that I get rid of this colony.
Thanks.

Get some raid bee spray - they have a very good stream that usually reaches up to 20 feet. Buy a couple cans and give a warning shot in the spot you think the nest is. If you see bees everywhere, stand back and keep spraying. Wait a bit and spray it again to be safe.
use a pressure washer and use it on the tree it will definatly destroy it and its really safe i mena its water so theres no harm. or get a contractor and pay to remove that thing and you better work on that asap b/c they are worse in the summer
Normally, they all return to the nest in the evening. Since the tree is thick and you don't want to "surprise" them, I would say to go out after dark with a flashlight. Most sprays will kill them and have up to a 20' range. Just slowly part the limbs so you don't create lots of movement.
JUST B-4 DARK they go dormant.use a spray that shooots 10 to15 feet .
Your going to have to spray it with wasp killer, I think do it sometime after 6pm and leave it over night, then go back to it tommarow, make sure the wasps are dead, before hitting the nest with a broom to knock it down.
you can ask a beemaster/beekeeper. He will help you
As far as a safe way to find the nest, good luck! As far a getting rid of the wasps, I have used a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part of regular dish soap in a cup and throw it onto the nest. This will render the wasps flightless and deprive them of oxygen and eliminate then in a matter of a few seconds. I try and do this just before dark when all the wasps are on the nest and for the most part pretty calm so there is less chance of getting stung and better chance of getting rid of all the wasps.
