Avocado pit?

Question:can you use the pit of an avocado to grow an avocado tree?

Answers:
Sure, I've got 1 in my kitchen window now. you get 3 toothpicks and stick them in a little way into the pit (pointed side down) Like 1/2" from the top so the picks stick out to the sides. then you put it in a little glass of water pointed end down in the water, kepp it watered it shoukd sprout, it will take a while but if you keep it watered it should.

I tried this and the plant produced beautiful shiny leaves but no fruit.
You're tree will grow but it will not produce fruit for 5-6 years. Haas avocados are all the same tree. The branches are grafted onto young trees resulting in the same quality of fruit. A tree grown from the seed will not have the same quality.
