What can i do to get rid of them? Can you recomened any solutions -- products and where they can be purchased, home remidies, preventative actions? Thanks

Do you have any idea exactly where they are getting in? If so, pile grass clippings at least 4 inches thick at these junctures and the ants will stop. Then, pull back your baseboard and apply an exterior sealant, caulking works well, on the inside where the floor joins the wall, just be sure it is one which dries clear in case you get a little messy and put your baseboard back in place right away to be sure it will still fit up well. Ants will not crossover decaying grass clippings...they hate them! And they can't get through good caulking! The reason you need to do both things is because ants "lay a trail" which they just keep following no matter what, so you have to eliminate the trail to get the ants to stop trying to follow it. Grass clippings do this beautifully, although they can be smelly for a while, but you only need put up with this for a couple days. I always try to use solutions which do not further pollute the earth and underground water tables with more chemicals, which is why I am not recommending any insecticides to you. They really aren't necessary in your situation. Best of luck.

You need to obtain some powdered boron and sprinkle it on their trail.
You should be able to obtain in from your local chemist / pharmacy / drugstore [whatever you call it in your country]

It works because the ants take it back to their colony and it poisons all of them.
As boron is naturally occurring it will not cause any environmental problems.
I have had trouble with ants, and I discovered the products in the stores weren't much help. Although I attempted to go online and determine exactly which species of ant I was having a problem with, the chemicals recommended for those ants in retail stores weren't effective against them.

I finally called in a professional exterminator and they took care of the problem; it really went away, whereas none of the chemical treatments I had tried myself had. They used a mixture of chemicals, none of which can be bought in a regular retail store. I understand you can go to specialty places and buy some of them, but if you have to mix five of them together as your custom solution, you would probably spend more money than if you paid the exterminator.

Here is a link on do-it-yourself pest control; however, if you click on the ants section, you will see how many different types of ants there are. Trying to sort through the maze was why I finally called a professional instead!
