Does anyone have any ideas on things to make with family china?

Question:We have china that my mother had.
We would like to do something with it, so all of us (grandkids, too!) have something of moms'.

Answers:
If you like the china and think it's pretty, you can give each member a setting to display in a glass cabinet or a plate to hang on a wall.

If you don't like the china pattern, you can do what I did: I made a mosaic table out of it. I smashed all the china (after I made sure it wasn't worth anything, of course) and using grout, I made a mosaic tile pattern on an old table. It made the table very pretty, and I think of my grandma every time I see it.

This will sound terrible, but it's not really.

Smash it smithereens (not really, just break it) and use the pieces to fill in a designed mosaic. All of you could make one or have one.
Mosaic tabletop - I saw this project on Extreme Home Makeover - they used the lady's grandmother's china to make a patio tabletop. She loved it.
Here are a few other ideas that will enable you to keep the china intact. For the teacups & salad bowls - candles. For the dinner and sandwich plates - clocks. These projects are very simple, make great gifts and you can find all the materials you need at your local craft shop. Hope this helps! :)
I like the idea to make the plates into clocks.
When my son, now 20, was born a lady from my church gave me a cup and saucer with a bouquet of dried flowers in it. Using glue she stuck the cup to the plate - It was a glue that pealed off when I got tired of the bouquet. In the cup there was a piece of floral sponge and the dried flowers (matching the print on the china) were stuck in it. I keep that cup as a memento of the occasion and also of the church friends that I had then. Perhaps there is a germ of an idea there.
Well breaking into pieces don't show much respect for your mother.

The best thing would be to keep it as a set.

Or the set may be passed around for special family get togethers.

Offer it to the oldest child first then on down to the youngest. in turn that will keep it as a set.

Other than that divide the pieces up & let each do as they would with it.
you could put it up on display in a home of someone who everybody sees often or you can give everyone a fare share of the china threw out the family and if there is not enough china for every family member who wants one to have one put it up in storage if you do not want to break the china and give everyone a peice.
i saw a very good idea in a magizine just recently.on the plates were pictures of family members, pasted inside the circle of the plates.the dinner plates and salad plates were then hung on the wall in the kitchen.it really looked cool.
I don't know who or how to do it but get a pic of your mother and have it put inside the plates and distribute to the family. A decoration and you always will get to see her.
