Why do you have to wash new sheets b4 use? difference between 100% cotton and 100% cotton sateen?

Question:bought bedsheets that are250 thread count.
front of package says 100% cotton
back of package says 100% cotton sateen (algodon)
note: the word algodon has and accent mark over the second "o"

i put the sheets on the bed already but the pkg says to maching wash before use. I really don't fell like taking them off, washing and putting them back on the bed. is it really necessary?

Answers:
The reason you wash before using any sheets or clothing is that toxins are used in the finishing of the final product. It is just not good for you and can cause a myriad of problems such as dermatitis, breathing problems, headache etc. There is also debris from the manufacturing process.

The difference between cotton and cotton sateen is the way the fibers are 'finished'. Sateen is a 'smoother' fiber. Both are cotton...it is not the 'content' that is different. Algodon means cotton.

My father was in the textile business- as he said- after they make the sheets they end up on a dirty floor, and then they package them- Do you want to sleep with everybody else's hands all over your sheets? And then there are the germs- UCK!
Many different types of preservatives are used when manufacturing any cloth... sheets, clothing, towels, whatever. Also fabric stiffeners are used for appearance. You could easily have an allergic reaction to one of these if you don't wash the chemicals out before spending 8 hours lying in them!
Fabrics are treated with a fire retardant spray prior to packaging. The reason you wash all fabrics after purchase is to remove the residue of the fire retardant that is left on the sheets. Many people are allergic to this retardant spray and often form a rash if the product is not washed first. If you don't have an allergy or sensitive skin, then it really doesn't matter and you don't really have to wash the sheet.

But that is the reason it says to wash them. Just in case you have a reaction.

Cotton Sateen is usually a higher thread count than regular cotton sheets and often has a satin piping or decoration along the edges. Not really much of a difference.

Have fun.
Yes! It's necessary. When products are made in factories there might be dust or other kind of allergens on them that might have accidentally gotten on them so if you don't want to be sneezing all night I would wash them.

As for the other question a suggest good old fashioned internet research. (trust me you'll have fun)
If you wear pajama's it probably won't matter if you wash them or not, but there is a smell that may keep you awake. I have to wash mine first because anything new makes me itchy.

Once I bought an orange sweat suit to wear the following day and I didn't have time to wash it, I ended up going to the quick care doctor because my face had gone numb...good luck!
It makes sense to wash them first to get off any residual chemicals and stuff left behind from the manufacturing and packaging process. Plus it will smell better and feel softer when you wash them first.
Yes, remove & wash first. It's extra work, but best.

Packaged new; wash to remove excess chemicals, floor dirt or packaged with someone's sneezing, germ hands, etc...

Clothing new; others may have tried on clothes, wash excess chemicals, may have been on floor & stepped on (who knows what was on bottom of shoes & just didn't leave a stain) or maybe even sneezed on.
