EXTREME ANT PROBLEM! please help?

Question:Ok so my friend was over and he said that there were some ants on the out side of my house. So being the guys we are, we decided to launch all out war with those small ba*@&#%#s. We drowned them in bug stray while setting the stragglers ablaze. Later when he left I noticed a few ants on my window sill where we sprayed on the outside, so I opened the window. I pretty much s*$t my pants there we thousands of ants in the window sill with larvae and everything. They started to scatter and I started spraying them, after 5min of drowning them in a spray of death, I started looking around and I think they are setting up like a colony or something...what do I do. I want to kill the queen, should I swallow my pride and call the professionals , or should I try to handle it.

Answers:
There is something that I used years ago called Terro or Tarro. I unfortunately do not know if it is still made. But it is poison you set out, the ants take it back to feed the colony and the queen so it kills everything. I have no idea if your situation would warrant that. My infestation did not seem as drastic, but I would assume the principle would still work the same to kill the colony. Check and see if you can find it in a local hardware/Menards/Home Depot or whatever.

i shouldn't have read this...I'm going to have nightmares...call an exterminator now!
um. you guys should really call in the professionals. most ant infestations aren't that bad and usually a couple of sprays should keep them away but you guys used like a ton of spray and stuff. you'll regain your pride later, now CALL THE PROFESSIONALS!
sugar ants or fire ants? I searched for homemade ant killer recipes and am going to try this one out today:

1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup molasses, 1 pkg dry yeast...mix together and brush on wood or cardboard, place where ants are coming in at and replace wood/cardboard when dry. It says there will be more ants at first but then they go away...the yeast kills them.

Or 1tsp boric acid, 6 tblsp sugar, 2 cups boiling water...mix por over coton balls, place in margarine container w/lid and holes poked 1/8 inch from bottom...ants will take some back to their colony where the boric acid will kill them all.

Good luck
I had that problem with a new house that I had bought.
Right under the threshold of the front door.
Same thing..THOUSANDS!!
We continued to do the 'death spray' stuff.
I also read that mothballs help.
So we did both.
You have to remember..when you kill an ant.more ants
come to recover the dead ants. So you will continue to get more. We kept vacuuming them up as they would die. Then empty the bag right away in the trash can.
Another thing. We put some hard candy, cookies etc. near where they were.but outside the house, to attract them outdoors where they were easier to spray. If you keep interrupting their life and 'home'.they will eventually move.
Yikes.you brought back bad memories. GOOD LUCK!
Direct spray of poison will almost never kill the queen, or the colony. The queen does not come out where you can get to her. However, she does eat, alot. What she eats is all home delivery. Her drones bring food back to her from their foraging. If you want them dead, you have to leave the foragers alone, but provide them with tasty poison (ant bait) for them to take back to the colony and feed to the queen. I put the bait in the direct path where they travel. Some will go right past it, but others will eat some, and bring some back to the colony. It's not instant, but it seems to work pretty well.
Go to the local superstore and buy some Terro. follow directions carefully as it is super poison. At first it will seem like there are more but they take this stuff home with them and it kills all the ones in the nest. Its the best ant killer around.
I have heard that baby powder works.I didnt have much luck with that however. I JUST read that a small pile of cornmeal works wonders...the ants carry it back to their nest and they eat it. They cannot digest the cornmeal so it kills the whole colony.
