Victorian home..?

Question:My sister bought a big old victorian home that has been well taken care for it age. Has anyone owned one? Will it cost alot to maintain..it has a new boiler and 3 yrs old roof. any advice? Thanks

Answers:
we've owned older homes and the biggest thing is the heating/cooling issues. unless it has been 'insulated' recently and the windows have been made 'tight' so that the wind can't come in thru them... that will be one thing that maybe needs to be addressed. we keep a dehumidifyer going in the basement most all the time to keep things at a constant moisture wise.

if she has 'hot water heat' with old radiators, it will take a bit to get to know how they work... and by all means, close up rooms that arent used regularily so that it isnt being heated/cooled when not in use.

they are wonderful to have and a treasure really! hope she enjoys it!
