VERY sick cactus!?

Question:HELP!! My cactus is turning yellow-green and covered in withered black patches! Do I cut the black places off, or does it need water, or what? Can smeone tell me something that could help save it?!! I've had this cactus forEVER and I'm SOOO attached to it!

Answers:
go to the local nursery and buy some cactus mix dirt; it is just for cactus; then carefully pull out the cactus, trim off all of the bad brachs or branches, and clean all the roots of old dirt;
put the cactus dirt into the ground where you want it planted, and first put a layer of gravel and sand under the spot so it will drain well. remember this is a desert plant and does not like water on its roots.

then very carefully set in the cactus dirt and cactus, and pat down the roots, fill in until the dirt is just below the crown of the cactus; don't smother it.

water lightly, and let it sit for a couple days then give it another light water. let the sun heal the cactus ...

good luck.

What the heck did you do?Its almost impossible to kill a cactus.I abuse mine all the time.It sounds like its drowning .Put it in the sun and let it dry out good.
A sure way of he;lping it is to seek advice from a professional from your nursry. I think you might be giving it too much ewater.
