Exploded D battery?
Question:Hi Everyone,
My husband found an exploded D battery in a small appliance. Of couse, when he tried to remove the battery, it fell on the floor and got the "battery juice" on the carpet. What's the best way to clean up the mess? He thinks vacuuming is the way to go but I'm not so sure.
PS: I have a toddler. I want to make sure that there's no residue left behind for him to find.

If it's a regular battery don't put baking soda on it. They are called Alkaline Batteries and contain no acid. You can just clean it up with a little water. They use the liquid inside batteries which in pretty much Lye in lots of things we touch and eat so by diluting it you will make it harmless. If you really worried about it call the battery manufacture and they will be able to give you the best information.
Sprinkle baking soda over the whole thing!! This will help neutralize the acid. Wearing rubber gloves, remove as much as possible, keep sprinkling baking soda as you go down. Bet the carpet has been burned. You can cut a patch from the closet and tape it over what is burned, put the batch back in the closet.
