Help! Overrunned with ants?

Question:I have a huge ant problem they are coming into my apartment from the outside through a crack and have taken over. I have some indoor raid but was afraid to use it around my son does anyone have any suggestions as to whether it's safe to use around children.

Answers:
not much point in putting sweet thing´s it´s their favorite food. You´ll end up with thousands. Put some black pepper powder at the entrance from where they are coming from. They will carry this into the tunnel, I think if you can also fill the crack with some sealant , this will stop them . Ant´s love jam, sugar, cakes, and crumb´s of all kind´s along with splashes of grease gravy and syrupy juices. Do not leave food uncovered. Keep all jar´s with marmalade , honey & jam firmly lidded store cakes and other sweet food in air tight containers. Sweep up and hoover when ever possible . you take away their favorite food . & they will move on

You could try something sweet - like an empty jam jar or something they'll all crawl inside. it wont hurt your son - but unfortunately it wont stop them coming back either
I would suggest either planting large amounts of ant traps around the house like little ant pods. (I dont know what they are really called). But you might be better off consulting an expert.
There is a new product out that is supposed to be safe around kids and pets. I personally don't trust any such product. We used the outdoor ant killer and put it all of around the perimeter of our home. It has worked wonders. I hope this helps.
buy ant traps , then put on some rubber gloves and peal the tin off then add syrup to the mix, mix well with a tooth pick, reseal the tin and place it out of reach of your little one and the ants should disappear in about a week, good luck.
Hello:

There is a product that you can find at Lowe's or at any hardware store called,"Terro Ant Bait Traps,"and these things WORK! I am telling you that we had an ant infestation this summer and this was THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED!! These ant bait traps come pre-filled with ant poison and when you are ready to use them all you have to do is take a pair of scissors, and snip off the end of the ant trap and then place the ant trap wherever you are seeing the most ant activity!

What I love about this product is that the ants will go nuts over this poison and within a few days,I have even seen the queen ant go into the trap and then she died. The ant poison smells really sweet to the ants almost like what a maple syrup smell of pancakes or waffles would smell like to us humans. That sickening sweet smell, attracts the ants, they gorge themselves on it,and then go back to their colony and share the poison with the rest of the ant colony, cool huh?

PLAIN CORNMEAL will also work if you are seeing ants just sprinkle some on a paper plate or on the ground and they will gorge themselves on this and then when they and their little ant colony get thirsty and go to take a drink of water,BOOM! The ants will explode,it sounds cruel but it does work! Plus,it is a non-poisonous method of killing ants naturally, and cornmeal WILL NOT hurt your children or pets if they accidentally get into the cornmeal!

The last thing is that if you sprinkle baby powder around the entry ways of where you are seeing ants, they WILL NOT CROSS the entry way if there is baby powder there, because they hate the smell of it,it repells them!

I hope that this has been helpful for you and I highly, highly, recommend the,"Terro Ant Bait Traps,"because they DO WORK TRUST ME!! ;-)
you can use a mix of water and liquid dish soap that kills them fast and its more safer than bug spray. pure it on the ants out side and and then in side that will kill them for sure.. laundry detergent works best...
Spearmint helps (the real plant, but spearmint oil will do the trick too)

cucumber peels (seriously - but they look funny when they dry)

cinnamon powder (I take this with me on picnics and it works like a charm!)

all these are natural, friendly and work! You just have to keep reapplying them...
