Mouse bait? What works?
Question:I heard peanut butter works well, any other suggestions to catch the bastard?
Answers:
I can vouch for peanut butter. I've used it several times with good success. I don't anymore because I now have a cat who is a VERY good mouser.
Peanut butter works great on traps.
i found a dead mouse outside in front of my door, we have 2 cats.
i hope this answers your question.
Jelly is also excellent, especially when it dries t the trap, then they have to work at it to try to get any off, whereas peanut butter can be licked off gently. And make sure if you do use peanut butter, use very little and not a big glob or they can just take a little here and there. Work it into the bait holder part of the trap. I have used both jelly and peanut butter and found jelly to be better.
Good recommendations from answers on here... I strongly am against poisons such as D-Con, not only are the affects inhumane for a mouse to suffer, it can also attract pets -slowly poisoning them to death in about 6 weeks.
Live traps have always worked for us, you put peanut butter or whatever you want in them, then set the captured mouse free about a block or so away from your house.
Toasted cheese. American or cheddar are best. Mash it into the bait pan then heat it lightly with a match, until it starts to darken. The mice love it, and they have to work to get it out of the pan, so it's not likely they will steal the cheese without setting off the trap.
Hold the trap with pliers, and pass the flame overthe entire trap to remove the human smell. Not all mice are that fussy, of course, but this method even traps the hard cases.
