Hello:
THE ONLY THING That has ever worked for us is,"Terro Ant Bait Traps,"that you can find at any Lowe's or any type of hardware store! These ant bait traps are already pre-frilled with ant posion and you just snip off the end of these traps with a pair of scissors, and then place the traps in the areas of your house that you are seeing alot of ant activity!
Now I will admit, that I was VERY SKEPTICAL when I heard about these ant bait traps by Terro, but I am telling you that THESE THINGS WORK! In fact, they work so well, that even the queen ant will come and eat out of the ant bait traps and then die!
One other thing that you can do is sprinkle baby powder outside of your doors,or entry ways that you are seeing that ants are coming into your house from, and ants WILL NOT CROSS the baby powder lines whatsoever!! I know it probably sounds really crazy but it does work!
One last thing that works like a charm too,is using PLAIN CORNMEAL and setting it on a paper plate or just pour it wherever you are seeing ants, and they will gorge themselves on the cornmeal, and then they will take the cornmeal back to their colony! When all of the other ants eat the cornmeal, they will feel really thirsty and when they go to get a drink of water,BOOM! They will explode,it sounds really cruel, but it is true and this method works really well too!
I hope that I have been helpful and good luck on getting rid of those nasty critters! I have tried EVERYTHING that I have mentioned above, and all of these methods do work when it comes to getting rid of ants!! ;-)
My mum uses water with some lavender water in, apparently they don't like it and wont cross it, but it doesn't hurt them (in small quantities mind).
Don't know if this is based on any actual fact though.
I was given a tip once to spray ant killer all along the outside of your house, one brick up from the damp course, it seems to do the trick, they don't seem to like to cross it, i do it every year now in the spring.
I have had a ton of firsthand experience with ants being just relentless and damn near impossible to control for many years now. I actually heard secondhand (from a company exterminator-go figure, didn't even know they existed) that for one reason or another that this is just a bad year for ants on top of everything.
Really the only way to permanently get rid of them would be to burn down the house, they're pretty relentless. I have had some pretty good results with Terro brand gel traps from Lowe's, though- they seem to love those things. Other than traps all you can really do is to keep your house spotless so that they can't find any food in your place. If you have pets, make sure to keep their food dishes clean. Pickle juice around the outside of your house where the house meets ground will keep them at bay for short periods sometimes, as well as salt (don't use rock salt though- it has to be relatively fine- kosher salt or anything you'd actually use for cooking is good). I have also heard that ants loathe the smell of peppermint oil, which is good because its all natural and won't harm you or your pets at all and can give your home a pleasant smell.
If worse comes to worse and you really can't do anything about them though, you're probably just going to have to suck it up and call an exterminator. I hope you don't have to go that far and that this all helps. Good luck!
We were over run with ants in the spring every year.I read an article which stated the sweetener aspartame was originally designed as an ant killer. Having read where a lady had great success with using "equal" to kill ants, I tried it. I put a couple packs of equal in a jar lid and moistened it. The ants went crazy for 2 or 3 days then they were gone. They never came back. I had a large mound of large ants appear in our yard. I tried the equal. The ant and the mound were gone in 2 days!! Needless to say I no longer eat equal.

The best way is Dried parsley, just put it down by the ants and they will go in about one hour.
