Why are bugs attracted to lights/light bulbs/lamps?

Question:

Answers:
They use the moon to navigate. The man-made lights emulate the moon. That's why they fly in circles around the lights -- they keep passing it up.

Heat !
Stupidity?
bugs likes heat, trust me i have seen some stupid ones fly into fire.and die
Instinct. Others run away from the light.
Most of them are attacted to the light qualities which they associate with flowers and food.
because they are attracted to the Ultra Violet light being emitted.
Ultra violet light component of the white light you're using. This is the main component of the moonlight they use. If you put an UV light out shining on a white sheet, you'll attract thousands.
becuase they think it is the sun and get confused.
The Heat. Bugs <3 Heat =P
It blinds them same with deer & head lights.
Small brains create little reasoning.

Less likely for bugs to head toward yellow lights which why that is popular bulb color for porch lights. Some still head for yellow lights but don't 'flock' towards it.
