How do I care for my new leather lounge suite?
Question:I know I can buy leathercare at the shop, but I'm hoping for a cheaper alternative.
Answers:
Good leather products that work will be economical in the long run. If you use a leather protector (not conditioner) and one that works properly it will make cleaning easier the next time and also prolong the life of your leather so proper products are worth it.
Protect with a leather protector as soon as you buy.
Wipe over with a damp cloth or lazy leather every 2-3 weeks,
Foam clean every 2-3 months and reprotect once a year.
Good products will only cost you a minimal amount to do this.
If you use household products which will cause problems in the long run it could cot between £300-£400 to have it professionally cleaned and any problems sorted so it is well worthe the cost of the products.
Be careful what brand of products you buy as many from the shops will be very expensive and not actually work so these often are a waste of money.
Generally speaking your leather will have cost you good money so therefore it is worth protecting your investment and if a leather is looked after properly it will last a long time.
DO NOT use baby wipes as they destroy the finish on your leather which will cause a lot of problems later on.
Saddle soap is too harsh for todays finishes.
Polishes contain silicones
Conditioners contain oils and waxes which should not be used on todays leathers.

I just dust mine. You don't really need all those ArmourAll etc., for years unless you want a really shiny finish.
